Let’s chat recording….
Both our rooms are equipped to serve as multi-purpose environments, first and foremost KMD is a rehearsal studio and these days that’s the bread and butter. However, the control room has recently undergone some changes and equipment has been upgraded, it’s a great time to consider tracking some of those songs.
KMD doesn’t claim to be a state of the art recording facility and with that in mind our rates are beyond reasonable. You’ll get great results at a price that doesn’t break the bank, far from it!
I’ve recorded albums, EP’s, demos and just about everything in between, I’ve published cd’s in-house, mastered and uploaded to hosting sites on behalf of clients, sent tracks away elsewhere to be mixed and mastered, got producers in who specialise in specific genres & sometimes I’ve simply handed over the files at the end of the session.
What I specialise in is live recordings with an honest output, something you can give to prospective clients in the knowing it reflects the true you, personally I feel that’s mighty important.
I don’t claim to be a producer, I’m a sound engineer in the true sense of the words, yes I can help with your production but first and foremost that’s what I am. I won’t attempt to mix or master genres that are outside my skill set, I’ve been there and it simply doesn’t work. I’ll always give an open and honest assessment right from the word go!
If you’re looking for mobile/on site recording then I can help with that too, there are a lot of options so we would need to discuss your requirements and make a suitable plan.
The future….my goal is to head back to the good ol’ days of tape, as I develop the studio it’s always in my mind that at some point it will be a AAA facility….
1. Analogue in – record onto 2” tape via quality preamps on a decent mixer like SSL or Neve. Preferably all edits to take place on tape only.
2. Analogue masters using only quality hardware.
3. Master to 1/4” tape.
4. Straight to vinyl……yes, analogue all the way.
Of course it would be lunacy not to catch everything inside a DAW, it’s the best backup and does give you so many editing possibilities but what I truly love about analogue is the approach, playing it until you get it right, working through the entire recording process both experimentally and logically, the control room often becomes the crazy scientist’s laboratory.
